THIS MONTH’S EXHIBIT

This virtual art exhibit for April, 2021, is in a video format to hopefully give you a more personal viewing experience. Click the art exhibit image below to view the YouTube video featuring three new works.

This month, the collection is all about visiting the beach – even if only in my imagination. I used a series of seascape photos I took years ago while visiting Deer Isle, ME; Emerald Isle, NC; and Tampa, FL. To truly appreciate the color and texture of encaustic, click the video image to see the YouTube Virtual Art Exhibit set to music. Click the painting images for details and purchase link.

WHAT IS ENCAUSTIC?

Each piece is made from encaustic wax applied to birch wood panel. Encaustic paint is a mixture of beeswax, natural tree sap resin, and pigment. I heat the paint on a hotplate and then apply it on to a cradled wood panel using brushes. Every layer of wax needs to be fused with a blow torch to ensure it is fully bonded to the surface. My encaustic artwork is known for its vivid color, dramatic texture and unique organic visual design. My inspiration is the beautiful scenery in nature that holds special meaning in my heart. Hear about my inspiration behind the painting by clicking the image below.

The beauty of encaustic is truly appreciated when viewed in person. It is difficult to see the texture and luminescence of the wax in a 2D digital platform, so I can send additional photographs, video, or zoom conferencing as an opportunity to view the piece “up close”. I also offer studio visits by appointment to view the artwork. My studio is located in Purcellville, Virginia. Simply contact me to set up a time to come by.
