Whether you’re brand new to cold wax or simply curious about adding texture and depth to your paintings, this beginner-friendly workshop is the perfect place to start. You’ll explore five foundational cold wax techniques that open up a world of creative possibilities:
- 🖌️ Layering & Blending: Learn how to build rich, matte surfaces using cold wax mixed with oil and acrylic paint
- 🧽 Texture Creation: Experiment with tools and found objects to create dynamic, tactile surfaces
- ✏️ Sgraffito: Scratch through layers to reveal hidden colors and add expressive linework
- 🧪 Solvent Lift: Discover how to soften and remove areas for atmospheric effects
- 🎨 Mixed Media Integration: Incorporate pigment sticks, powdered graphite, and dry media for added depth
No experience is needed—just a willingness to play, explore, and discover your own visual language. All tools and wax mediums are provided, and you’re welcome to bring your own paints or use the ones available in the studio. (Bring oil and acrylic paints in a warm tone, cool tone, dark value, and light value. Example: Burnt Sienna, Phthalo Blue, Black and White.)
Expect a relaxed, supportive environment where creativity flows and questions are welcome. You’ll leave with a deeper understanding of cold wax techniques and a few beautiful pieces on paper and wood panel to show for it.
