There’s a new gallery in western Loudoun County, Virginia. Discover Purcellville, the non-profit behind such community art projects as the Painted Wine Barrels, the Painted Benches & Planters, last year’s Painted Love seats and now Purcellville’s first mural, is opening a new art gallery in town. Located at 760 E. Main Street, the gallery will feature work from Western Loudoun artists and will focus primarily on fine art. Organizers state that the gallery will be run by community volunteers and that the mission is to offer artists living in Western Loudoun County a venue where they may exhibit and sell their work.

Further, the gallery will serve as a location for art classes and for art events such as opening receptions and outdoor festivities. The gallery serves to support artists and promote locally produced artwork while enhancing the quality of life in the area. Being a volunteer driven venue, the Purcellville Art Gallery is looking for volunteers to help hang artwork, work in the gallery, and help with special events.

Grand Opening for the gallery is set for Saturday, September 14, beginning with a ribbon cutting ceremony at 4 pm and festivities continue until 8 pm.  Gallery hours of operation are  Wednesdays through Sundays, 11AM to 5PM.

A call for artwork has gone out for the Gallery’s second exhibit with a August 29 deadline for submissions. Artists who work in any medium are encouraged to apply. The exhibit will run from October 3 to January 5 with an artists reception to be held on Saturday, October 5 from 6:00PM to 9:00PM. Going forward, calls for local artwork will go out every two months.

Discover Purcellville’s Michael Oaks said, “We are thrilled with the outpouring of support and interest expressed since announcing the concept of the Purcellville Art Gallery. It has been a dream for many that there be a venue for local fine art, classes, and art events located right here in town. Discover Purcellville is working with artists Anne Stine and Dave Levinson along with an increasing number of volunteers (need more!) to make this art gallery happen.”
