I was driving (as a passenger) west through Loudoun County, the kind of late afternoon where the sky turns gold and everything feels heavy with color. As I crossed the bridge, the Shenandoah River came into view—quiet, winding, luminous. I snapped a quick photo through the car window, knowing I’d come back to it. Not to paint it exactly, but to chase the feeling it gave me.

River Dream is that feeling. It’s not a literal scene, but a dreamscape built from color, texture, and memory. The river flows through the center like a thread of light, flanked by trees that shimmer with the color of sunset. I used bold brushstrokes and encaustic layers to echo the movement of water and the softness of dusk. It’s a painting about fleeting beauty, about catching something just as it slips away.
