On a beautiful spring day in Washington DC during the annual Cherry Blossom Festival, I captured the image of this magnificent tree. It reminded me of the special time in my childhood when I’d visit the cherry trees with my family so long ago. I went back in the studio and used the photo reference to paint the scene on wood panel using encaustic, making sure the brilliance of that day was expressed in vivid color and dramatic texture. Mixed media includes encaustic, oils, water-soluble encaustic.
