This painting was inspired by the rolling vineyards of Stone Tower, located in Loudoun County, VA. It started with a quiet moment looking out over the hills I’ve loved for years. Field Companions was inspired by a familiar scene in Loudoun County, Virginia. I often feel a quiet reassurance when I watch farm animals sharing the fields near my home, and I wanted to capture that feeling. Using soft, layered encaustic, I tried to show the connection between the animals and the land. Their easy togetherness reflects the comfort we find in familiar places and company. I invite you to step into this scene and feel the same calm and sense of fellowship that make these rural moments so restorative.

This painting began with a sweet little moment at the Waterford Fair. I was wandering through the village when I noticed a line of sheep making their way across a pasture, each one trailing the next like they were playing a quiet game. It was so simple and so endearing that I stopped right there to take it in. The trees were just starting to turn,  and the whole scene felt like a page from a storybook.

Follow the Leader is my way of holding onto that feeling. It’s playful and peaceful, full of the easy charm that makes Loudoun County feel like home.
