Where Small Things Gather was inspired by a simple moment by a tranquil forest stream, where I watched the water flow gracefully around the stones. That gentle movement captivated me, prompting me to express it in my art. I chose a soft palette of misty blues, delicate greens, and warm earth tones to reflect the subtle hues of the forest. Despite the calm colors, there’s a sense of motion in the composition and brushwork, echoing the vibrant energy of rushing water and life that is hidden beneath.

Ultimately, I hope this artwork captures the peaceful essence of that moment by the stream, blending tranquility and movement. I’m excited to share this experience through my art and invite you to connect with the beauty of nature’s rhythm.

Field Notes started well before I ever entered the studio. It began in the forest, during hours spent kneeling by streams, following the path of understory plants, and watching how light moved across bark, water, and leaves. I brought notebooks along, filling them with sketchesand observations noticing how everything in nature connects. Those pages turned into a map for creating a new collection based on my experiences with flora and fauna found in my favorite neighborhood forests. In the studio, those field observations shifted into layers of wax, pigment, and mark‑making. Each layer echoes the way knowledge accumulates in a living ecosystem — slowly, through repetition, curiosity, and attention. This piece invites viewers to share that same curiosity and respect. It reminds us that the forest always has something to teach if we slow down and listen. Every ecosystem is a conversation, and every mark we make becomes part of it.

Language of Leaves began in the forest, in a quiet place where leaves do more than just rustle; they almost seem to speak. I’ve always been drawn to the quiet conversations in the understory: the curl of a vine, the gentle sway of branches, and the way light weaves through layers of green. These gestures inspired this abstract encaustic piece.

In the studio, I turned those impressions into layers of wax, pigment, and texture. The forms drift and overlap like leaves in a gentle breeze. Hints of color rise and fade as leaves do when light moves through them: soft, natural, and quietly moving. This painting is about the feeling of being in communion with nature, conversing with it on a personal level.

Language of Leaves invites you to lean in and listen. It asks you to notice the forest’s quiet, living intelligence and how it reflects our own inner worlds. This piece is meant to bring calm, connection, and a grounded sense of beauty into any space.

At the Stream’s Edge began in those quiet spots where water slows and life gathers: mossy edges, darting shadows, and the gentle return of spring color. I spent time watching the stream move from fast to slow, seeing how light collects in the shallows and how small ecosystems thrive right at the water’s edge.

In the studio, I turned those impressions into this abstract encaustic piece. Layers of wax, pigment, and subtle texture reflect the movement of water and the gentle colors of early spring: pale greens, soft golds, and hints of blue that suggest a season awaking. Nothing here is meant to be literal. It’s about the feeling of leaning in, noticing the small details, and letting the quiet have its effect.

At the Stream’s Edge invites you to pause for a moment. It’s a reminder that beauty is often found in the in-between spaces, where things slow down and the world feels more personal.

Field Companions was inspired by a familiar scene in Loudoun County, Virginia. I often feel a quiet reassurance when I watch farm animals sharing the fields near my home, and I wanted to capture that feeling. Using soft, layered encaustic, I tried to show the connection between the animals and the land. Their easy togetherness reflects the comfort we find in familiar places and company. I invite you to step into this scene and feel the same calm and sense of fellowship that make these rural moments so restorative.

Quiet Grove reflects the calm presence of a community of trees gathered on the bank of the Shenandoah River. This painting holds the feeling of arriving somewhere still and unhurried, a place where light settles gently and the landscape invites you to pause. I’m drawn to these quiet groves because they ground me and provide a place of rest. Through layered texture, softened edges, and muted colors, I captured a memory that creates a moment of calm that a collector can return to; a place that brings a sense of ease and grounded belonging.

“Dawn Follows the River” was born from a quiet morning spent along the Shenandoah River. I sat at the river’s edge with a thermos of tea, listening to the hush between bird calls and watching the current carry my thoughts downstream. That moment—still, reflective, and deeply grounding—became the emotional undercurrent of this painting. Part of my River’s Journey series, it invites viewers to experience the serenity and spaciousness that nature offers when we slow down and listen.

There are moments where my thoughts seem to float around drifting wherever they choose. “The Drift of Knowing” floats between these sensations and memories, tracing the quiet movement of thought as it rises, dissolves, and reforms. It reflects the layered translucent nature of perception — where knowing is never fixed, but always in motion. Created with encaustic wax medium, oil stick, chalk paint and wax pencil.

I named this painting Water’s Path because that’s what I’ve been following for as long as I can remember. As a child, I wandered the woods like a game of hide and go seek, searching for the glimmer of a stream or the soft rush of a hidden waterfall. Water always felt like a secret waiting to be found.

This painting grew from those wanderings. It isn’t a single place but a layered memory of many: mossy stones, cool shadows, the sudden brightness where water reflects the light. Working in encaustic lets me build those sensations into the surface—wax, pigment, and texture echoing the way water moves, gathers, and disappears again. Each layer becomes part of the story, just as each discovery in the woods became part of mine.

This painting began with a sweet little moment at the Waterford Fair. I was wandering through the village when I noticed a line of sheep making their way across a pasture, each one trailing the next like they were playing a quiet game. It was so simple and so endearing that I stopped right there to take it in. The trees were just starting to turn, and the whole scene felt like a page from a storybook.

Follow the Leader is my way of holding onto that feeling. It’s playful and peaceful, full of the easy charm that makes Loudoun County feel like home.
